Day Tour To Curieuse & St. Pierre Island In Seychelles

Boat Tour To Curieuse & St. Pierre Island In Seychelles

Curieuse Island

This tiny 2.9km squared island is on the north eastern coast of Praslin and is well known for its red coloured soil. Curieuse Island was originally used as a leper colony! Today it is a national park, home to the famous Coco de Mer palms and also to more than 300 Aldabra tortoises. Some of these giant tortoises are protected in shelters near the Ranger’s station, whilst others roam free across the island. The shoreline is dotted with boats and fascinating granite rock formations.

On the southern side of the island is a mangrove swamp with a walkway for visitors. We spent the majority of our time under a hut on the shore, celebrating the half way point of our day with a bottle of French champagne, with the company of a friendly tortoise.

St Pierre Island

An uninhabited island, St Pierre Islet lies in the north of Praslin Island and the east of Curieuse Island. A perfect destination for snorkelers, yachtsmen, divers, the waters of the island is calm and perfect for water activities. Grab your fishing and water sports outfits and jump into the sea of great fun and entertainment. An island which has stored its natural beauty and has preserved its native ecosystem, St Pierre Islet is among the few islands at Seychelles where you will be isolated, cut off from the rest of the world.

Spanning over a tenth of a square kilometre, the island is populated by granite rocks and is flanked by palm trees, evoking vivid ideals of the perfect island-paradise. St Pierre Islet is also well-known for being a snorkeling hotspot and the healthy coral reefs around the island and the water’s clear visibility ensure that you will see some vibrant marine life.

Snorkeling is a playful way to dive in clear and shallow ocean waters, thus exploring the sea life and thrill. It is not as hard as deep sea diving which demands multiple types of equipment. In snorkeling, only an artificial breathing instrument (a snorkel) is put into effect. The diver can remain completely hands-free while under water. Overtime snorkeling has become one of the popular holiday activities globally for the sheer fun of it.

Best Time for Snorkeling in Praslin Island

In Praslin, snorkeling is open for enjoyment all year with the average temperature of 28 degrees Celcius. From October to March, rain is a frequent occurrence which takes its peak in January when the temperature is highest and goes up to 30 degrees Celcius which is also the most humid part of the year. It is comparatively cooler and dryer from April until September which is the result of the windier climate during the same time. Because the wind has a vital part to play during water diving activities, it is to be always kept in mind that the wind is north-westerly from October to March and south-westerly in between April and September.
